The King of Chu loved slender waists, and many in his kingdom starved to death.

The young Marquis of Chu liked women with slender waists, so the whole country started eating less and cinching their waists.

Meng Mi, a hardcore foodie, declared that she'd rather stuff herself to death eating bran and vegetables than starve to death in the Marquis of Chu's arms!

But beauty like hers could not be hidden, and one day she was chosen to stand at the ruler's side.

From then on, the young Lord Chu had a pretty girl by his side who could eat, snore, and write essays.

The young Marquis of Chu spent most of his wild youth pursuing his queen.

At sixteen, he threatened her: "For the rest of your life, you'll live under my control. If you ever think of betraying me, you know what the consequences will be."

At eighteen, he was firm: "My heart is open to you, but you are never leaving. Just stay here in comfort until you die."

At twenty, he spoke with deep affection: "Meng Mi, if you want love, I'll give it to you. If you want freedom, I'll give you that too... From now on, Chu and you are where my body finds peace and my heart finds rest."

A Gentleman Among Consorts

This story is set in a fictional world. Readers who insist on historical accuracy, please give it a pass.

The author has devoted a hundred years to the romance. I'm afraid there won't be much political scheming.

If you like feel-good romance with plenty of sweetness, feel free to add it to your collection! The main storyline is sweet, with a little angst in some parts. Everything serves the development of the romance.
