Ghosts Speak

"Master, tomorrow is the first day of the seventh month. The Gates of Hell will open wide."

Qin Gu pushed open the door. The person inside had his back to him, tall and graceful, with long black hair falling to his waist. He wore a black bathrobe and no shoes. A black cat crouched at his feet, glaring at Qin Gu with oily green eyes.

"Mm."

The person turned around, his slender eyes glancing over with icy indifference.

Qin Gu lowered his head and said, "Master, many people have already made appointments."

"Some need redemption, some want to rekindle old bonds, some want a reunion, and some need help driving away ghosts." The person strolled over at an unhurried pace. "But what if they all need to sort these things out for themselves?"

Qin Gu frowned and said nothing.

The person came right up to him. Qin Gu looked at those feet, so white they were almost transparent, and couldn't help taking a step back.

"Starting tomorrow, we'll close our doors and take no more business." The person chuckled and walked past Bai Gu.

Qin Gu lowered his head, clenching his fists in anger. After struggling to hold himself back, he turned and looked at the person's retreating figure. "Master, why?"

"I want to go down the mountain and have a look around." The person's voice was light. Without looking back, he left.

Qin Gu watched the figure grow more distant, his heart aching.
