[Adventure of the Brave: Fengshen Yinde] The Immortal in the Painting

Immortal in the Painting

How could I bear not to see

That delicate, flawless face?

Raindrops fall,

Soaking the whole eave.

You stand drenched to my left.

You are as beautiful as an immortal in an ink-wash painting.

I come closer and offer you a handkerchief.

You suddenly smile,

And shyly thank me.

The sudden downpour stops,

And just like that, you walk farther and farther away.

By the roadside paved with blue stone,

Our parting feels like a space between us,

Stirring up my ceaseless longing for you.

If only the rain would fall harder,

Then I could look at you a little longer.

Now I can only kiss your face with the handkerchief.

Tears trace a path past my lips.

Ink and brush sweep across paper and inkstone,

Capturing my endless longing for you.

If we could meet again on a rainy day,

Would you let me invite the immortal in the painting

To admire the flowers beneath the full moon?
