Summer had its gentle side, too. A soft breeze blew. Outside a cafe, a boy sat beneath its awning, reading a book and taking the occasional sip of coffee.
Soon, the quiet was broken.
There was a thud, which caught the boy's attention. A girl had fallen, and a pile of books lay scattered on the ground. She hurried to pick them up, but there were too many. The boy ran over to help.
When they had finished, the girl said gratefully, "Thank you."
"Where are you going?" the boy asked.
"Back to school. It's the first semester of ninth grade, after all, so I need to focus on studying for exams," the girl said.
"I'll walk you back." The boy picked up about a third of the books.
"Thank you." When they reached the school, the girl smiled like sunshine.
"You're welcome. What's your name?" the boy asked.
"My name is Wan," the girl said with a smile.
"What? Your name is Wan?" The boy looked confused.
Seeing his silly expression, the girl couldn't help giggling.
"Until we meet again." She winked as she said it.
"Goodbye." The boy was secretly delighted.
He was seventeen, and she was sixteen. They fell in love at first sight.
But they never managed to see each other again.
Will they meet again?
It feels a bit old-fashioned and looks like a fussy one.
