Daji was orphaned not long after birth. Her clan branded her an "ill omen" and cast her out, so she wandered the human world with her older brother. Who could have expected that one day her brother would become the ruler of a country, King Zhou?
At the time, Daji had not yet learned to take human form and was still a fox. By the time she finally succeeded, it would have been suspicious for King Zhou to suddenly have a younger sister by his side, so he made her his beloved concubine instead.
Her brother doted on her, of course. But later, her brother died.
Then she was taken back to the fox clan and made its queen as a scapegoat. Before long, Marshal Tianpeng led heavenly soldiers to the fox clan to capture Queen Daji. Just as they were about to take her away, a monkey-faced fellow jumped out and saved her.
Daji scrunched up her little face and tried to make herself as small as possible. Trembling, she asked, "W-who are you?"
The monkey-faced fellow glanced down at her and declared proudly, "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong!"
