Ten years ago, I saved two boys.
The first time was in a back alley. A ragged young werewolf had been beaten bloody for stealing bread. His hair hung over his face, hiding his features. I stepped in, took him home, and nursed him back to health. From then on, he became my little servant and constant companion.
The second time was on a lawn in a small town. A polite young boy from the dark mage clan was reading beneath a tree when a venomous snake bit him, leaving him on the verge of death. I treated the poison, and he smiled faintly. "You saved me today, miss. You may regret it someday."
Later, for the sake of restoring my family, I married that charming young man. In the second year of our marriage, he had me killed.
I watched him hold my cold body and shed hypocritical tears. I watched him use dark magic to conjure wolf's fur and pin all the blame on the werewolves, then drive the light mage clan into the abyss. From then on, the dark mages controlled the course of the world...
But just as he was about to ascend the throne at the most glorious moment of his life, a wolf-fang arrow bearing a death curse pierced his heart, taking him completely by surprise.
The age of the dark mages came to an end at last.
In the long years that followed, I watched a wolf remain by my cold tombstone, day after day, year after year. He gently licked the rain from the inscription and placed the most tender flowers of the morning before my grave, just as he had faithfully stayed by my side when I was alive.
I couldn't accept it.
I was reborn.
I returned to ten years ago, to a night of soft breezes and gently blooming night-blooming flowers,
the night I first met him in that alley.
