Lemon, genus Citrus of subfamily Rutaceae.
Plants can reach a height of 3 to 6 meters. The young leaves are obviously red and gradually turn green later. The flowers are large, fragrant, solitary or axillary in clusters; the flower buds are red, the upper part of the petals is white, and the lower part is reddish purple. It contains vitamin P and lemon oil can be extracted. Fruit is oval; 8 to 10 valves; yellow when mature. The pulp tastes extremely sour. It blooms on an annual basis, and the roots can be harvested throughout the year, and the fruits can be harvested in autumn and winter.
Lemon mosaic virus is a positive single-stranded RNA virus that mainly infects lemon leaves. When the virus infects the host plant, the metabolism of the susceptible plant is abnormal, and the leaves become yellow, chlorotic, shrunken, curled, and mosaic-like. Sometimes, they can cause necrotic streaks on stems and leaves; fruits are reduced or deformed. The mechanism of infection is currently unclear.
