After the phrase "winner in life" became popular, the hashtag "Winner in Life Ye Qiao" once trended on Weibo.
When people opened it, the top result was a long post titled "Winner in Life Ye Qiao: A Look at the Heartthrobs Who Have Worked with Ye Qiao Over the Years." It listed all the famous male actors who had worked with Ye Qiao, every one of them a heartthrob. Apart from Chu Yanzhi, her first co-star, all the others had been rumored to be dating her. The post ended by asking, "Who will Ye Qiao end up with?"
The hashtag occupied the top of Weibo's trending list for three whole days, setting off a massive fan-war.
The heartthrobs' female fans: "Ha. She works with a guy and starts a dating rumor every time. They're all rumored boyfriends, not one of them real. Winner in life? More like winner at publicity stunts."
Ye Qiao's fans: "Back off, leave our Qiao alone. We don't associate with haters and sour grapes. Our Qiao is beautiful and talented. She's spent ten years in the industry working hard on her roles, and she has so many works and awards to show for it! The haters in the comments need to open their eyes before spouting nonsense! No real-person shipping! Our Qiao isn't interested!"
Buried beneath the fan-war, there were also a tiny handful of fans of the Yanzhi-and-Qiao pairing: "Just quietly wondering, am I the only one who thinks Xiao Qiao is best suited to Chu Yanzhi out of all those male co-stars? How come there have never been rumors about them?"
Much later, the post resurfaced, and that comment from a Yanzhi-and-Qiao fan was bumped to the top.
The reason was that the top trending topic on Weibo that day was "Chu Yanzhi and Ye Qiao Announce Their Relationship."
The old post was shared countless times
"She really is a winner in life. The only heartthrob she was never rumored to be dating became her man."
