The original blurb was abandoned due to its subject matter. Here is the new blurb.
(An alternate-universe setting, not historical fiction.)
One day, a young emperor drank a fine wine called "Yellow Millet Dream" at his brother-in-law's Pingyang Marquis estate. One cup was all it took to knock him out, and he had a lovely dream: he saw himself enjoying the company of a beauty with clouds of flowing hair at the marquis's estate, and gaining two peerless generals named Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, who beat the Xiongnu into a panic.
When he woke up, he asked his sister and brother-in-law, only to learn that the beauty had gone traveling the world with someone several years ago, with no set return date. Wei Qing hadn't come to the marquis's estate to claim kinship, either. They found Huo Qubing, who was only three days old!!!
One day, the emperor heard of a fangshi who could summon souls. He invited the man to call back the spirit of his beloved consort, who had died young. The next day, he saw his little crown prince playing with shadow puppets, supposedly a new toy from his aunt.
The emperor: Why does that look so much like my beloved consort's spirit from last night!!!
Another day, the crown prince brought out a box of magnetic beads from his aunt and said he wanted to put on a magic show for his father. The following day, another fangshi showed up, claiming he would perform a game of chess for the emperor.
The emperor: All I can do is laugh!
Then one day, someone sang the emperor a song called "Song of the Beauty," about a woman whose beauty could topple kingdoms and cities. Someone else there immediately had a song called "Building Is Harder Than Conquering" sung in response.
The emperor's mind cleared in an instant: ...Bah! What an ominous song. Topple kingdoms and cities? Whose kingdom? Whose city?
Much later, the emperor was old and wanted to go out for a walk. One of his companions suddenly told him a story about a remarkable woman who grasped a hook and carried a child for fourteen months.
Several days later, his attendant said, "Your Majesty, there's a remarkable woman up ahead..."
The emperor: Don't come any closer!!!!
Liu Che: Hey, I'm not the protagonist. Why is the whole blurb about me?
Someone: Because Your Majesty has to be center stage!
Reader's Guide: 1. I'm obsessed with stories about Emperor Wu of Han and wanted to read about Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, but couldn't find anything to scratch that itch, so I wrote my own. Although the male lead is a great general, His Majesty the emperor, his talent spotter, gets plenty of screen time and stays center stage. His sharp-tongued, cold-hearted, domineering ruler characterization remains unchanged. The great general is the male lead's love interest, little Huo is everyone's beloved child, and the courtier cast revolves around the Wei family. No obsessive solo fans, please.
2. A wish-fulfillment story with a golden finger. No logic, so don't overthink it!
3. Enjoy the story! Feel free to share your opinions, but no personal attacks. Keeping the comments section civil depends on all of us.
Finally: Please support the official version. Thank you!
