How to Raise a Superstar Boyfriend

At 24, Justin led the Mavericks to defeat the Celtics, coached by his girlfriend Meredith. At the awards ceremony, he got down on one knee and proposed to her with the championship trophy. "You said if I could beat your team, you'd accept my proposal." Over the course of ten years, Meredith strives to become the first female head coach in NBA history, while Justin, a chubby young Black man, makes his own triumphant comeback! A news flash from four years ago: The Los Angeles Times reports: Lakers' 20-year-old rookie phenom Justin spotted holding hands with assistant coach Meredith during the summer break. Half a month later, the Dallas Morning News reports: Justin officially announces his return to his hometown team, the Mavericks. Meredith, watching TMZ gossip, and Justin, watching a replay of the Mavericks' playoff game: Meredith (furious): Bigmouth Barkley says I made you leave voluntarily so I wouldn't get fired by the Lakers. Justin (smiling ingratiatingly): That's true, but I did it of my own free will. Meredith (dead serious): I was planning to resign anyway. Justin (surprised): If this is just to give Barkley a taste of his own medicine, I don't think you need to go that far. Meredith (very serious): Barkley says I'll definitely stay with the Lakers, all for my ex-boyfriend, Teague Thompson. Justin (jealous, but afraid to say so, smiling ingratiatingly): Then resign. I love seeing Barkley get hit with a face-slapping! A note from the author: 1. This is a sports novel set in an alternate NBA.
