After the An Lushan Rebellion, the splendor of the prosperous Tang was gone. The nation was beset by internal and external threats, teetering on the brink. A foolish emperor, princesses married off abroad, eunuchs wielding power, ministers locked in factional strife, warlords ruling their own territories, and consorts meddling in politics: the Tang Dynasty's centuries-old bold spirit was all but destroyed, and this period of history was stamped with a gray mark.
Even so, a brilliant shooting star would sometimes streak across the vast night sky. Even in this steadily weakening Tang Dynasty, there were members of the Li clan determined to restore its glory, legendary tales of harmony between ruler and ministers, and devoted consorts whose love knew countless twists and turns.
This is not a dark chapter in history. It is simply a beautiful portrait of the Tang after its golden age!
Come on, I really like Wu Zong and Li Deyu.
