"You're all alone here in Lonely Moon City? I wonder what it is about this place that drew you here, Miss."
"The people who live in this city."
He turned and slowly walked away.
I was left alone with his lonely silhouette, just as when we first met on a snowy night. A gust of wind swept in and billowed his white robes. His ink-black hair streamed through the air. Barefoot, he walked across the frozen ground, the bells around his ankles jingling.
"Miss! Have we met before?"
"Why are you wearing a mask?"
"I'm ugly. I was afraid I might frighten you."
"Take it off. Let me see."
"I'm afraid I can't do that."
We sat in the snow, looking down at the countless candles lit in the homes at the foot of the mountain. The heavy snow had stopped without a sound.
I raised my hand and traced the outline of his face. Once, I had wanted so badly to be held by him. Now, my heart could never grow warm again.
