In life, I was a nameless soldier among the 70,000 valiant men of the Red Flame Army.
In death, after the snow melted on Meiling and the flames died out, I was no more than a drifting, homeless wisp of a soul.
Seventy thousand heroic souls died beneath the blades of power-hungry ministers, and beneath an emperor's laughable suspicion. Even after death separated us from the living, all we could do was bear the infamy the world heaped upon us. Heroes became vengeful ghosts, their bones shattered and buried beneath the wild grass. Ghostly cries can often be heard on Meiling.
Reader's Notes:
1. Fanfiction based on Nirvana in Fire cannot be published as a paid work, so there's no pressure to update.
2. First-person narration. I'm a devoted fan of Mei Changsu.
3. I have no idea where the plot is going. I'll just write whatever comes to mind.
4. It's been so many years, and somehow I'm writing a historical-style story again. What a feat.
5. Reading along with the Nirvana in Fire fan songs
It's been eight years, author, you're not done yet

Wow, I'm back again after completing the Nirvana in Fire list. Is it true that I won't write this article anymore?
