I Heard Konoha's Public Safety Is a Little Off

Serious version: A modern AU Naruto fanfic, starring detective Tenten and forensic investigator Hyuga Neji, along with the adorable day-to-day life of the M District Precinct. The K, A, and X Districts will make guest appearances from time to time, and of course, the Akatsuki bosses will keep showing up to make their presence felt. Mysteries and romance develop side by side, reason and emotion intertwine, and the past and present remain tangled together. Who can stay out of it all? Once the mysteries are solved and the truth revealed, who will have the last laugh? Detectives and police officers have always worked on the edge between life and death. Offbeat version: Tenten says a detective needs a big imagination. Neji says a forensic investigator needs to be meticulous. When Tenten first met Neji, she thought he was a distant, aloof dreamboat. She later discovered he was a tsundere. When Neji first met Tenten, he thought she was a cheerful, energetic girl. He later discovered she was a total goofball. And so begins the story of an outrageously imaginative goofball detective, a tsundere forensic investigator who's even more meticulous than a detective, and a bunch of oddballs who offer absurdly helpful assistance. Comedy version: At the start of their partnership: "I'll sleep in the guest room." "You have to protect me." "..." "At close range." "…" Much later: "Neji, could you give me a little more space...?" "I have to protect you." "..." "At close range." "…" Tenten finally understood what it meant to shoot yourself in the foot. Note: This story is a slow burn. The characters' personalities and relationships will change as the plot progresses, so don't be fooled by the normal tone at the start. This is a goofy story (serious face).
