When Qin Jue first met Gu Cong, Gu Cong had lost both his parents and was living under someone else's roof, relying on his younger brother for company. Grateful to him, Qin Jue encouraged him to keep going and even adopted his younger brother, sparing him a life of hardship.
When Qin Jue met Gu Cong again, he had become an obscure actor, running around in search of minor roles. Gu Cong, meanwhile, was looking for a suitable stunt double for his younger brother, who had just debuted.
Though he knew the gulf between them was impossible to cross, Qin Jue still pursued him without hesitation. Everyone thought he was crazy.
On Gu Cong's birthday, Qin Jue gave him the gift he'd carefully prepared and nervously confessed his love, only to be met with a cold, disgusted stare.
Gu Cong sneered. "What makes you think you're worthy of me?"
Qin Jue stared at the broken gift in the trash can and thought it over for a long time. Pain brought him back to his senses: Gu Cong was right. He wasn't worthy.
He packed up his things and sensibly disappeared from Gu Cong's world.

Years later, Qin Jue returned to the entertainment industry, having risen from an unknown extra to the hottest, most acclaimed actor of the day.
At the celebration banquet, Qin Jue saw that familiar figure again. He kept his distance, but people wouldn't stop gossiping in his ear. They said President Gu had someone he loved but couldn't have, someone he'd been searching for desperately for three years. They wondered if he was still looking.
Qin Jue felt nothing after hearing it. But when he turned around, the subject of the rumors cornered him in the restroom. His gaze was dark, filled with a tenderness Qin Jue had never seen before.
Looking at the face that had once left him so captivated and dazed, Qin Jue sucked in a breath. "Ugh... what rotten luck."
He turned to leave, but the other man suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"I lost you," Gu Cong said, stubbornly tightening his grip, though his voice trembled with panic. "I've always wanted to... find you again."
Qin Jue smiled and returned his old words, verbatim. "What makes you think you're worthy of me?"
