Beyond the northwestern sea lies the Great Wilderness. In one corner of the Great Wilderness stands a mountain that reaches into the clouds, known as Langya.
Langya rises a thousand zhang, gathering frost and dew from the heavens into rivers that flow day and night, through every season. The river is called the River of Cold and Heat. Yan lies to its north, Chu to its south, and the state of Xiao to its east.
There is a pavilion on Langya, named after the mountain. It is mostly home to ghosts, fox spirits, immortals, and monsters. The people of the state of Xiao heard of this, but were not afraid. As time went on, a story spread that Langya Mountain was a blessed place where all things possessed a spirit, and even plants and trees could be enlightened into immortals. If one won the approval of Master Mei of Langya, one could bring immortals, demons, and spirit beasts home and command them.
Then every wish would come true. Ask, and nothing would be denied.
