Everyone said Regulus was timid and insignificant, overshadowed by his dazzling, lion-king-like older brother, Sirius.
He joined the Death Eaters because all the Slytherins liked following the Dark Lord.
He wanted to leave halfway through because he was afraid the consequences would cost him his life.
He was his mother’s good son, his family’s darling little boy.
Even years later, when Sirius remembered his younger brother, he could describe him only in a few words like these.
But to me, he is the truest and most perfect Slytherin.
No one ever saw his room, that world of silver and green, or the faint smile of the slender boy in the Quidditch photograph...
The only comfort Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows gave me was Regulus. He upheld the Slytherin spirit I believed in.
I wrote this before the seventh Harry Potter book was published. I never expected that, when I got the original book and turned to the passages about Regulus, they would match so perfectly.
Because Regulus is so complete and lovable, I solemnly swear here never to badmouth Rowling.
