[Epistolary] Letters from the Wild Geese

The joy of passing the imperial exams, and the grief of coming last. But even a palace brimming with visitors cannot compare to a single clear melody. And even plain tea and simple meals, in rough clothes and working the fields, cannot hide the stirrings of talent. Who could know how long and difficult the road would be? Where could they meet again? Note: This story is set in a completely fictional history. It is a clean danmei romance told entirely through letters. The setting is a fictional ancient era. The letter format draws on letters from Dream of the Red Chamber, letters from the Republican era, and modern epistolary fiction. To balance the author's writing ability, readability, and emotional expression, the prose is a blend of classical and vernacular Chinese. Classical Chinese experts, please go easy on me with your critiques _(:з"∠)_ Epistolary fiction in classical Chinese is a huge challenge, and the audience is small, but I just want to give it a try. Whether I succeed is another matter. Still, classical Chinese is so beautiful that I would regret not trying. If it's not for you, please just click away.
