Time's Gentle Warmth

Looking back, the road should be traveled slowly. Time passes easily, but warmth is hard to find. Youth is never something you can hold on to. Only by living passionately in the face of death can you have enough to carve up and serve with wine, drumming your chopsticks and singing loudly through the long years of old age.

Yi Nuan always thought that she and Shen Xiu were childhood sweethearts, perfectly matched and destined for each other, and that once she came of age, the Shen family would come to ask for her hand. But even after she was grown, she learned that the road from "Little Yi" to "Madam Shen" was long and arduous, and might not even lead anywhere!

Fortunately, on that dead-end road, Xu Xinghuan was there to help her cut through the brambles and press forward.

It wasn't until much, much later that Yi Nuan understood:

Everyone has to travel many, many roads to piece together a life.

And different people accompany you on every stretch of the way. Shen Xiu had been with her for nineteen years, the entirety of her dreams back then. Then Xu Xinghuan took over and walked the next stretch with her.

The night before she left the city, Yi Nuan heard Xu Xinghuan standing on the stage of the small sports field, saying, "She's graduating this year. I really want to tell her: I miss her so much. Or maybe it's not her I miss, but that time in my life."

Before Xu Xinghuan even stood in front of her, tears were already streaming down Yi Nuan's face.

A simple little story, with a bit of melodrama and angst, but still striving to be warm.
