A snake! A huge snake! It held its head high, its red tongue flicking out. Its body, over a meter long, bent into several S-shapes as it slowly slithered forward. Suddenly, as if it sensed danger behind it, it whipped around. A blue glint flashed in its eyes, its dark scales creaked, and it shot toward me. Caught off guard, I backed away in terror, but in an instant the snake was right in front of me! In my overwhelming fear, my vision blurred. S-shaped snakes were slithering all around me. Damn it, why hadn't I worn thick jeans and my Adidas sneakers today? Why had I chosen beach shorts and sandals that left my toes exposed? Had the snake caught the scent of my bare flesh? I instinctively reached for my waist. At that moment, even a small knife or a belt could have served as a weapon to fight off the snake. But all I grabbed was a thin drawstring from inside my beach shorts. It was surprisingly sturdy, and with a hard tug I pulled it out. I tied the string into a noose with both hands, thinking that if I could get it around the snake's head, I could strangle it! In the blink of an eye, the snake sprang into the air. Its S-shaped body straightened, its mouth opened wide, and it lunged for my left leg. No one could describe the speed and force of that snake's desperate charge! I screamed and jolted awake from my dream, my heart pounding. I opened my eyes, and in the darkness those eerie blue snake eyes still stared at me, as if pleading, sending chills down my spine! I don't believe in karma, but this really was a snake hidden in the forest, and now its ghost wanders the mortal world…
Finally, I deeply regretted my greed and impulsiveness at that moment. With one blow, I killed a spirit of nature, shattered a mysterious snake world, and satisfied my dirty stomach. Cherishing life and protecting wild animals is the obligation of every citizen.
