In her first life, he was a ginseng digger who happened upon a spirit ginseng on Changbai Mountain. To escape, the spirit ginseng promised him a life free of worry.
In her second life, he was an immortal lord who went down the mountain to buy wine. He happened to see the spirit ginseng being bullied by a Taoist priest and, unable to stand by, saved her life. To repay him, she promised to stay by his side for a lifetime, but eventually fell by the shores of Lake Guangyan. Without a word, he searched for her ginseng seeds, replanted them, and renewed the promise of that lifetime.
In her third life, she was bound to the Demon-Slaying Platform and cut in two before his eyes. For showing favoritism, he was stripped of his immortal bones and banished to the mortal world. On the platform, she smiled radiantly, her foolish, flowerlike features exquisite. She said that in their next life, it would be best to forget everything completely, and if they made another promise, let it be a lifetime together as husband and wife. Yet enduring life together was not as good as forgetting each other in the world. In their next life, they would boat on the Red Cliffs and retire to a secluded paradise.
