Que Yunqiao is twenty-eight years old. Because of her studies and work, she has stayed in Japan since university, but she is a Taiwanese through and through.
One day, while in the apartment she had saved up to buy, she heard a radio broadcast. On a whim, she wrote a letter and sent it to the station. A few days later, she heard her letter being read on air. Then letters from all over Japan nearly burst her mailbox. One letter stood out to her: it had a pale yellow envelope and a dried flower tucked inside, a dried magnolia. The flower symbolizes friendship. After putting the flower away carefully, Que Yunqiao noticed the signature at the bottom: Kise Ryota.
"I have a very special letter here. The writer is a Taiwanese person living in Japan! Let's see where they live... Oh, they live in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Let's hear what they have to say!"
Fresh from brushing his teeth, Kise sat on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. By the end of the broadcast, he had learned the writer's name: Que Yunqiao.
He picked up a pen and paper and copied down the address he'd just heard. Then Kise Ryota took out the stationery and envelope someone had given him two years earlier, wrote a few lines, tucked in the magnolia he'd meant to give his ex-girlfriend, and mailed it.
