The Last Chi You

As the last Chi You in the mortal world, he watches the rise and fall of human affairs as emperors and generals come and go like the changing of a revolving lantern. What does any of it have to do with him? His dream is to find the legendary Father, grow up as quickly as he can, and then marry the prettiest girl in Jiuli, living happily ever after.

But life rarely goes as planned. Eight or nine times out of ten, it disappoints. He has innocently promised an entire lifetime to a mortal who will live only a hundred years. What happened to the pretty girl? This deal is a terrible bargain!

Main characters (In my setting, nobles have courtesy names and commoners don't. Really, I just got sick of coming up with so many names.)

Liu Fengji, courtesy name Ziyu

Xie Yongjia, courtesy name Luanting

Lu Shaolian, courtesy name Gongnan, known as Little Young Master

Gu Qing'an, courtesy name Qingfu, known as Twelfth Young Master

Wang Xiping, commoner, no courtesy name

Li Chun, uh, I never even thought about what this prince's courtesy name might be

I've been lazy for far too long, so I've decided to get moving and finally put down the story I've been imagining for years. It won't be very long, and I'll do my best to update every other day until it's finished. I won't abandon it.

The setting is broadly the mid-Tang period. I was inspired by the Yongzhen Reform and the events of the Two Wangs and Eight Sima during the reigns of Emperor Shunzong and Emperor Xianzong. I was completely captivated by the young Liu Zongyuan, so I let my imagination run wild. But the story really has little to do with actual history. Liu Fengji and Liu Zongyuan are entirely different people, and although many supporting characters borrow real names, please don't identify them with the historical figures.

In short, just treat this as a supernatural tale set in a fictional era based on the mid-Tang period.

A clean romance, one-on-one, happy ending.
