[The Lord of the Rings/Troy Fanfiction] The Lost Sail

"Tell me your name." Paris gently wrapped his arms around the man's neck. It was the only thing he had left to ask. The man said it only once. But that name, with its graceful, lilting sound, would echo again and again throughout the long river of Paris's life. "Thranduil." "Thran...duil..." Paris repeated clumsily, his tongue curling softly in his mouth. "Thran...duil...Thranduil..." The man silently watched him, the depths of his eyes suddenly lit up. It was a strange name, just like the man himself, beyond the understanding of a frail child from the mountains. Yet Paris quickly shook his head, dismissing that first impression, then looked up at the man and smiled. "I don't think even the gods have a name like that. I don't understand what it means, but it sounds as beautiful as a song." "It is," the man said, lowering his head until his forehead lightly touched Paris's. "When the bitter winter passes and the gentle spring draws near, it will ring out across this vast, silent land. And then, only one sound, unchanged for thousands upon thousands of years, will be the first to answer its call." "What sound is that?" Paris reached out a small hand and touched the man's cheek. "The sound of green leaves waking once more on the branches." As he spoke, he gently kissed the child's forehead.
