This story came from a what-if that occurred to the author: if Suzaku were reborn, could some of the tragedies be changed?
Suzaku can be too stubborn at times. After becoming Zero, some of his views would surely change. Once in a position of power, he would understand Lelouch's helplessness back then.
The author feels Lelouch had too much to bear, so they made Suzaku Zero after being reborn. Lelouch wouldn't have to carry so much, and his gentle side could shine through.
The author also decided that Nunnally would have a Geass and know the truth from the beginning. That way, she wouldn't stand against Lelouch. The confrontation between the siblings in the original story was just too heartbreaking.
Euphemia's death was another heartbreaking moment in the original. In the author's story, this angelic girl won't have to die so tragically.
