Selected Translations from Tales of Autumn Lamps

Tales of spirits and strange happenings, curious stories in classical Chinese.

Set during the Qing dynasty.

Recently, I’ve become fascinated with strange-tale collections such as Strange Tales from Make-Do Studio and Notes from the Cottage of Close Observations. By chance, I came across Wang Jian’s Tales by the Autumn Lamp from the Qing dynasty and loved it. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find a modern translation, so I decided to do it myself, selecting and translating some of the stories I liked.

I translate purely as a hobby. Please point out any errors you find.
