The Penrose Staircase (IB: The Painting of Fear)

The greatest distance in the world is when you die on the screen, and I weep outside it.

Fierce flames burn the doll that defied the laws of nature to gain a soul, utterly destroying the girl who longed for freedom.

Endless darkness swallows the only helping hand in a strange maze, imprisoning a moment of tenderness in an eternal portrait.

She lay on her desk, listening to the music tinkling in her headphones, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

I prayed: if I could meet you, if I could tell you

I like you.

???????

When I fall asleep, I gaze at you in my dreams. A shadowy flame secretly radiates a faint glow.

(Note: A Penrose staircase consists of four connected stairways that each continue upward. It is an optical illusion and paradox on a two-dimensional plane, often used to describe worlds trapped in an endless loop, such as in Triangle or Twelve Monkeys.) (Note: This is part of the Reviving Old Projects series.

(Though I originally wanted to write about a girl seducing Garry... so why does this feel so dark now?
