Tales of the Ancient Sword: Su Yue's Life and Death

Blurb A year ago, he shared a pot of rare wine with him. A beautiful woman who came over at the sound of their voices laughed and scolded them: This wine is called Till Death Do Us Part. Nine months ago, he shared the same bed with him. The white-haired immortal who came to see him off flung his sleeves in anger: Outrageous! Six months ago, he took over as sect leader and stood alone atop a mountain, gazing into the distance. The retired former sect leader lowered his eyes and asked quietly: Why defy the will of heaven, and what can you gain from it? When the fruit ripens, you may preserve the soul, but the body will still perish, leaving only three hundred days of life. Three months ago, he received a letter. A young woman had found the missing spirit and entrusted him with caring for the person who was about to awaken. But with his blood and energy depleted, he could barely move. He could only fall to his knees before his master, who asked him just one question: One big, one small, one far, one near. Which will you give up? He said he wanted to give up neither, and only wished to trade the remaining three hundred days of his life for a lifetime of happiness for all three of them. Three days ago, he sent everyone away and struggled like a cornered beast in a humble, ice-cold room. When he awoke, the sky beyond the window was bleak and snowbound, and a faint cry went on without end. He shed his bloodstained clothes, donned plain robes and a purple cloak, and emerged in splendor. Ling Yue said, I have come not to die with you, but to live with you. The living come, the dead depart. Life and death, death and life. Those who cultivate the Dao should understand this. He only wished for that person to be safe and sound in this life, and in every life to come.
