Everyone Wants Me Dead

This is an age when intelligence is considered heresy. The aging pope died at his desk, leaving behind a final wish: to purge this entire continent. Holy priests held sacred books in their hands and drove out demons and witches. The devout lit the flames and burned civilization, along with paper and pens. The Seven Kingdoms swayed like duckweed in the storm, while plague spread across the continent like a gray curtain. As people, tormented by disaster, cried out in misery, the priests of the Church hid behind towering walls of white stone and burned the witches one by one. But one escaped their notice. A prophecy quietly spread across the continent. The hero of the prophecy would bear an ominous mark. He would taste the bitterness of betrayal and tread the thorny paths of the Seven Kingdoms. Millions would hunt him, yet none would come within reach of him. When the white stone walls were stained with blood, and the red stone scepter shattered before him, he would take up the crowns of the Seven Kingdoms, wield a sword, drive away darkness and plague, and restore light and joy to the land. People placed all their hopes in this hero, this child of God, believing he could save them from their desperate plight. But they did not know. This hero was not loved by God. He was not even a man.
