A Pawn

I want to leave the world you control,

Yet walk right into the battle you laid out for me.

I have no strong defenses,

And nowhere left to retreat.

I want to escape the trap you set,

Yet fall into another predicament.

I don't have the courage to decide who wins,

Nor the luck to get away.

I'm like a chess piece,

My every move is yours to decide.

I'm not the only general in your eyes,

Just an insignificant pawn.

I feel my body growing colder by the moment. At my ear, I seem to hear the requiem you played when we first met.

Brother, as my life comes to an end, I turn out to be as foolish as our mother. If I could do it all again, I still wouldn't let go of your hand, even if it meant walking into hell with you.
