Ballet shoes come in three models: Vaganova, Aili Ta, and Fuojie. Each model comes in 17 sizes;
To fit different instep heights, each size also comes in five widths. Any dancer can choose the ideal pair from 255 options of varying thickness, size, and width.
An Fanni worked hard to find the right pair among those 255 shoes. She rose from the corps de ballet to supporting roles, and was just one step away from becoming a lead dancer. Then, during a performance in Los Angeles, she found her own ribbon. From Arabesque, Attitude, and Ecarte, she moved on to Popping, Locking, and even Breaking.
She resolutely left behind the restrictive ballet costumes and put on loose Hip-Hop clothes, going from a ballet dancer to a B-Girl. When asked in an interview how it felt to go from classical ballet to Hip-Pop, An Fanni said it was like being a prisoner who had been locked away and deprived of freedom for ages, suddenly receiving a release order.
At a gala, she met the leader and choreographer of the Generation 2 dance crew, Shaun Evaristo, and they became friends. He said her dancing would be a great fit for the entertainment company he was working with, and that they wanted her to work as a full-time choreographer. The company was called YG Entertainment.
Fanni means "one who yearns for freedom," but things did not go as she wished...
Her first overseas choreography job led her to become the company's full-time choreographer, and even a producer.
When people asked her why she stayed at YG, she said, "Because someone here gave me a release order for love..."
