The Count's Oil Painting

When the earl awoke from more than a century of sleep and saw the world again, he found that everything had changed. Buildings that towered into the clouds, metal boxes that sped along, and shrill noises made him terribly uncomfortable. The poor earl was afraid of new things, so all he could do was shut himself away in his castle and gaze at that oil painting. He liked to drink his treasured red wine alone in the castle, raising his glass to the person in the painting. He must be in love with the person in the picture, the earl always thought. Those emerald-green eyes fascinated and intoxicated him, making him unable to resist kissing the tips of that person's fingers. ~ Two short stories. I may expand them later, or I may write new ones.
