The story takes place on Earth, 33 years from now. The world has entered the all-mechanical age, and Earth has become so polluted that it is no longer habitable.
Five years ago, in 2042, a previously unknown plague suddenly broke out in a city in an unnamed country, sealed off completely by concrete and steel. It contaminated and ruined vast tracts of land. Three-quarters of the city's population were devastated, and it was nearly reduced to a ghost town. All the infected humans mutated and began biting their own kind.
Soon after, this terrible plague began to spread, eventually sweeping across the entire Eurasian continent. The sky above the whole continent was filled with the despair of death...
