The Colosseum

In the arena, there is an unwritten rule:

“I love you.”

If the ruler points his thumb up, the loser is spared death.

“I don't need your love.”

If the ruler points his thumb down, the loser is killed.

“All right, darling, which gesture will you choose? Down or up?”

“Isn't it you who rules here? I have no say in it.”
