The story begins with Lan Yiwei, a woman from an aristocratic family, falling in love with Li Wan, who comes from an ordinary family with no connections. While they are together, she dislikes his golden retriever, Dangdang, and does all sorts of foolish things. Later, she decides to go abroad, but Li Wan's sincerity moves her. The two travel to clear their minds for three months, leaving Dangdang in Uncle Zhang's care. Uncle Zhang treats Dangdang well, but the dog is dejected, refuses to eat, and misses its owner. Three months later, Lan Yiwei and Li Wan get engaged. When they return to Uncle Zhang's to bring Dangdang home, the dog sees its owner and Lan Yiwei, barks at them, then quickly runs over and leaps into Lan Yiwei's arms. The story goes on to tell of their happy life together.
