[Prologue]
She sat across from me, gracefully sipping the coffee I found unbearably bitter. Her expression was so composed that I could never hope to match it. And he happened to like that about her.
"If you really like him, stop looking for him." She set down her coffee and looked at me expressionlessly, exposing my wound without the slightest hint of emotion. Her dark brown eyes held an unfathomable depth, beyond anyone's reach. "You two aren't right for each other. You know that better than I do."
My body trembled uncontrollably, but I stubbornly smiled at her, unable to utter a sound.
She stood, gave me a polite nod, and walked toward the person waiting for her outside. That person had once promised to give me a home.
