[The Gentle Crackdown / On Call 36 Hours / The Truth | Multiple Couples] Tying Knots to Keep Records

A plot bunny inspired by the curious connection between A Change of Heart and On Call 36 Hours. My conscience has gone to the dogs. There are quite a few characters, so I've made a relationship chart for reference: (See Chapter 1 for detailed relationships; it contains spoilers.) Special notes: * The couples in the story are, as shown in the chart: Yiu Yat Shan/Zhang Yijian (past perfect) Ah Ben/Zhang Yijian (present progressive) Fong Chi Lik/Joey Kong (past perfect) Yiu Yuet Shan/Tong Sin Chi (future tense) * The story follows two timelines, past and present. The relationships don't overlap, and among the couples currently known there are no love triangles. Everyone follows the time-saving and effort-saving principle of ending one relationship before starting another (hey). * The couples listed are set. But if I keep writing and the plot bunnies grow ever more wild, some other utterly deranged pairings might show up... (Don't make me eat my words!) * A promise from the characters' doting mom: aside from the past timeline, everyone gets a happy ending.
