Naruto: A Belated Love

As a boy, Shikamaru always thought he would marry Ino only because of their childhood engagement, overlooking the satisfaction he felt when he kissed her. He even thought he liked Temari of Sunagakure more than Ino.

As a girl, Ino always thought she liked the genius Sasuke. It wasn't until after the Chunin Exams, when she saw Temari of Sunagakure doggedly pursuing Shikamaru, that she suddenly realized she had always loved Shikamaru. When she found out that she and Shikamaru had been engaged since childhood, she accepted without hesitation when her parents asked her opinion. But married life was nothing like the happy future she had imagined. There were no sweet embraces, no loving kisses, and no heartfelt words of love. All she got was sadness, numbness, and Shikamaru saying he was only doing his duty. There was no love. An accident let her see Shikamaru and Temari clinging to each other, while he was numb toward her. One turn of her head showed her Shikamaru and Temari sharing a sweet embrace and kiss, while he gave her only a perfunctory peck... At last, this shattered the tiny bit of hope she still had left. So Shikamaru didn't like her at all. He had married her only because their parents had arranged it. The one he loved was Temari of Sunagakure... Fine. If you have no love for me, then I'll leave. If you don't love me even a little, I won't force you to stay. I've signed this divorce agreement and left it here. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other. You take the main road, and I'll take the narrow path. I refuse to believe that I, Ino, can't find a man better than you. But while healing and looking for someone new, Ino discovers that her failed marriage seems to have left her with an extraordinary memento: twin yolks???

As a young man, Shikamaru finally realizes he loves Ino after everyone gives him a good-natured nudge. He rushes home, eager to embrace his wife, have another child, and enjoy the wonderful life of a wife and kids at home. But after saying, "I wish you and Temari happiness," his wife left behind a signed divorce agreement and ran away... All that remains is a man who always seems half-asleep, clenching his fist and tearing up the agreement as he grits his teeth: "You idiot, Ino! Just you wait until I catch you!!!"

But five years later, when he learns his wife has returned to her parents' home with their child, the man has forgotten all his grand plans. He can only rush over and plead, "Honey, come home with me," then swat away all the rotten peach blossoms who've been chasing his wife for the last five years.
