I was deeply moved after reading The Great Gatsby. Since it interprets the American Dream, shouldn't it have an American-style ending?
Having read the original, I felt that Nick's feelings for Gatsby were very different from what the movie portrayed, so I decided to rewrite this classic from the perspective of a man attracted to other men. The story begins with Chapter Eight of the original, on the morning after Daisy hit Tom's mistress. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, I highly recommend doing so. My writing naturally can't compare to Fitzgerald's, and many of the opening scenes and lines of dialogue are adapted from the translation, so please go easy on me.
Until the moment he died, Gatsby kept waiting for the telephone to ring. But the call he received wasn't a farewell from his beloved Daisy. It was the sound of Wilson's gunshot.
If Nick had followed his instincts that morning, he wouldn't have left the despondent Gatsby to go to work.
If Nick had stayed that day, the absurd slaughter would have been prevented.
Gatsby wouldn't have died, and Nick wouldn't have left the East.
So many things would have changed.
In short, Gatsby survives, dumps Miss Daisy, and gets together with Nick!
