[Assassin's Creed Series: The Past] A Twisted History

"I am Fang Jiang, grandson of Fang Xiaoru. My father narrowly escaped the Yongle purge. To evade pursuit, he fled west, eventually making his way to Europe, where he gave his life to... keep me safe..." From the 14th century to the early 15th century, the Chinese Assassins were led by Fang Xiaoru. In 1402, with the help of the Templars, Zhu Di successfully usurped the throne and began purging the Assassins. Thousands of them, including Fang Xiaoru, were killed. The Templar Order seized supreme power in China and took control of the entire Ming dynasty. Fang Xiaoru's son, Fang Zhongyu, survived and fled west with a merchant caravan, eventually reaching Europe. He later died to protect his only son, Fang Jiang, leading Zhu Jianshen's agents to believe their targets had all been eliminated and return to the Central Plains. In 1470, Fang Jiang, who had wandered as far as Rome, chanced upon Giovanni Auditore, a senior Italian Assassin on his way home. From then on, he became a member of the Italian Brotherhood. That year, Fang Jiang was ten years old.
