Those who plant are cultivated, those who are overthrown are overthrown. God does not have any private intentions in this, and he also allows people to prosper and wither their ears. Therefore, if you cultivate virtue, you will advance to greatness day by day; if you are immoral, you will fall into filth day by day, and even live in ruins for the rest of your life. How can a person who shouts at heaven and weeps without knowing the reason be victorious? In the past, the Gion family was obsessed with compassion for all sentient beings, and wrote the Sutra of Cause and Effect to teach the world, hoping that everyone would turn back and climb to the other shore. If he sows these good causes, they will all achieve positive results. This is what Confucianism calls "the stream of talented people". Isn't it too late for people in the world to fail to notice and fall into a deep sea of misery? When they look up for help and find no way to appeal, is it not too late? Or it may be a commonplace saying: "Is there any cause and effect in the world?" Huh! He also deduced and questioned one by one why people in the world such as so-and-so are rich, why so-and-so is poor, why so-and-so is blessed, and why so-and-so suffers? People in the past said: "Don't do any evil and do all the good." A three-year-old child knows that an 80-year-old man cannot do it! This theory of cause and effect is urgent and should be explained. When I visited Jinli, I heard that students are trying to improve each other and often examine themselves based on "merits and demerits." This is the key to true self-cultivation, the foundation of advancing virtue, and the basis for blessing and establishing one's destiny. One day, various students came to the altar with a volume of "The Theory of Chunyang Cause and Effect" and asked me to preface it. After reading it, I felt that the words could be used as sutras, and the words were all sufficient to explain worldly affairs thoroughly. It's both simple and audible, yet precise and indelible. Every time I talk about a cause, I think the old woman can explain it, and all the children can understand it. It is nothing more than a drum in the evening and a bell in the morning, which is thought-provoking. Once this book is published, we will see that everyone sows this good cause and everyone will receive this good result; everyone will avoid this evil cause and everyone will stay away from this evil result. Can I not have high hopes? In order to discuss all kinds of life, it is urgent to publish it in order to wake up the world, and it will be a great success.
