[The Silmarillion|Turgon/Finrod]Gone with Sirion

They rode side by side through the valley of Sirion. The Shadowy Mountains and the cliffs encircling them sped past on either side, until the smoke-scorched plains of Ard-galen, where the fires had only just died down, fell far behind the mountain barrier, and the bright lands of Beleriand spread out before them. The breath of early spring still flowed beneath the floating ice of the Great River Sirion, or sprang up from the shoots of grass in the cracks of the rocks. Then the road divided beside Lake Ivrin. The joyful gathering that had once taken place there was not forgotten even years later, but they did not linger, for no one doubted they would meet again before long. The River Narog rose there and rushed south. Crossing the Ginglith along its course, they could see the rolling outline of the dense forests of the highlands of Taur-en-Faroth. The other road hugged the southern foothills of the Shadowy Mountains and stretched westward, the mountains growing ever gentler, until the salt tang of the sea filled the air and the tranquil city of Vinyamar could be seen at the foot of Mount Taras. - F.A. 61, soon after Dagor Aglareb, the Glorious Battle.
