There she is, beyond the water’s edge.
Mei is that captivating strip between water and shore, close to both, seeming to be water and shore, yet neither. Su Mei, named after it, always comes tantalizingly close to happiness but never truly finds it. Her eyes are like rippling water, shifting between coyness and anger, joy and sorrow. She rejoices in reuniting with her first love after they parted and rekindling their relationship, but grieves as they once again go from being in love to breaking apart. Some broken mirrors can never be mended. Fortunately, she meets her destined partner and begins a romance with a man much older than herself. Unfortunately, good times never last. She longs for a peaceful life, only for another storm to rise.
She seems to take the initiative at every turn, but has never truly been able to control her own fate. Heaven’s will is obscure, and she doesn’t know whether to turn toward the water or the shore. She is only a blade of grass growing at the water’s edge, fragile yet stubborn.
But the scene when you met reminded me of I DO!
