The Army at Close Quarters [Twelve Kingdoms Fanfiction]

In May 2000, unexplained wormholes began appearing frequently in Qinghai Province, China, and around various parts of Japan. Lifeforms were also seen entering and leaving them. The secret international organization Earth and Space Defense Alliance, known as U.A.C.G., took the matter seriously and began monitoring and investigating the phenomenon. It made first contact with a lifeform calling itself a Qilin and learned of the existence of another world known as Tokoyo.

Meanwhile, by chance, Nakajima Tatsuya, a senior officer at U.A.C.G.’s Asian headquarters, learned from one of those involved that the person who had kidnapped his daughter three years earlier was also in Tokoyo.

In July 2000, a massive wormhole triggered a great tsunami in Tokyo Bay, killing 237 people and leaving 2,842 missing, with countless others injured. U.A.C.G.’s Asian headquarters concluded that the disaster was connected to Tokoyo and suspected that war might break out. Seizing the opportunity, Nakajima Tatsuya volunteered to lead a twelve-person special forces unit through the forcibly opened wormhole to reconnoiter Tokoyo. At last, the gears that would change the fate of a snowbound nation began to turn…
