The heart: where is it?
I know where my body is, but I don’t know where my heart is. Following the rules, keeping to my place, and being obedient made me lose myself. I know this isn’t who I really am, but I’m forced to push myself into this mold.
The eyes: can they see clearly?
What I see has become real; what I see isn’t false. Can I truly see through the past, present, and future? I hate the old me, who knew nothing of people’s cruelty. I dislike the present me, who has strayed from her true nature. I’m lost in the act I put on every day.
The light: gained, then lost.
I once had it, and life was full of joy and beauty. Having lost it, I nearly drown in the shadows. In front of my family, I’m a warm, loving daughter and a sister who looks after her younger brother. Under my secret identity, I joke around often, make sarcastic remarks all the time, and am cheerful and outgoing, making friends everywhere.
The shadows: drowning in them.
The shadows of the past won’t go away. I look down and see scars; when I close my eyes, I see nightmares. They remind me of the past every moment. I have no choice but to give up the things I love and force myself to change. Around others, I keep to myself, seek neither fame nor profit, and am quiet, stiff, and strange.
I live by switching between light and shadow. I gradually adapt to this way of life, but I also forget which mode I’m in. I embody both, yet they cannot coexist.
My understanding twists and turns as I struggle to make sense of these contradictions. My heart and eyes are locked away deep inside me. When will I know where my heart is leading and what my eyes long to see, and return to my true self?
The people who hurt me in the past were not good people. Most of the people I met later were kind. Whatever the case, I’m grateful to everyone. I gradually learn to discern, to adapt, to get along with others, to take responsibility, and to change.
My heart and eyes grow clear, and light and shadow find harmony.
