Time really is a marvelous thing. The same six years seem to pass much more slowly in elementary school than in middle school. It seems our perception can't be trusted. Is it because children are too young to have a clear sense of time, or because people in middle school begin to fear growing up and the unknown? So the six years of middle school seem to fly by in a flash, and time becomes harder and harder to spare.
In her first year of college, Xia Zijue heard that same whoosh. Now she is a sophomore, but Zijue, who is 170 centimeters tall, still hasn't turned eighteen. She started elementary school a year earlier than her peers and skipped fourth grade, moving straight from third to fifth. The Xia family wasn't keen on sending little Jue to college just after she turned sixteen. But it so happened that the best school in the province was right next door. It so happened that her older sister was a graduate student there. And it so happened that the shop whose cakes, strange as it was, had captivated Jue was also on campus. Xia Zijue couldn't understand why that cake shop had to open at the university Xiang Ziyu attended, of all places, and why it only sold to the school's students, teachers, and staff. Why was that? Heaven knew how much she wanted to escape the school overshadowed by her older sister's halo: kindergarten, elementary school, elementary school again (the sisters had transferred schools), middle school, high school, and now college. But the best school was the one Xiang Ziyu attended, the one Xia Zijue got into, and it was right near home. Her older sister's halo had followed Zijue like a shadow ever since the moment she was born."
