You were born before I was born, and by the time I was born, you were already old.
You regret that I was born too late; I regret that you were born too soon.
You were born before I was born, and by the time I was born, you were already old.
I wish we had been born at the same time, so I could be with you every day.
Ye Chen: "I never imagined that after a lifetime of womanizing, now that I'm past fifty, I'd fall madly in love with someone young enough to be my grandson. And he's a man, too."
Chu Zhen: "Do you regret it?"
Ye Chen: "Yes, I do. If I could do it all over again, I'd rather never have met you. I'd spend the rest of my days womanizing on my Whitehead Mountain, and you'd meet a woman who loved you and whom you loved, and have a house full of children and grandchildren."
Chu Zhen: "I don't want a house full of children and grandchildren. I only want to grow old with you, even if it's just for one day, or one hour."
Ye Chen: "Shaoyun, why are you so foolish?"
Chu Zhen: "No, I'm not foolish. No one has ever treated me so well, not even my father or mother. How could I bear to let you go? How could I bear to miss my chance with you?"
Covering my face, this blurb is so ridiculously melodramatic!
All right, I think this story will be a glorious mash-up of melodrama and over-the-top clichés. But daydreaming about this kind of thunderously cheesy story is just so much fun.
P.S. This is a slow burn. A very slow burn.
I've been overflowing with inspiration lately, so here's a promise to myself: I'll try to finish that Smiling, Proud Wanderer story, then work on this one.
Theme:
It's not wrong to heat up slowly, but it's wrong to dig a big hole~
