A Fantasy Immortal Journey

Act One

Setting: Lingxiao Hall

Characters: Ling Zhen, Yi Meng, Yu Tong, Jing Xue, Zi Ning, the Jade Emperor, the Queen Mother, and the Immortals

Opening:

Five women kneel before the Jade Emperor as the Immortals accuse them.

Taibai: Your Majesty, we must not set this precedent. If the court’s order is thrown into chaos, how can the ministers be expected to obey in the future? In my humble opinion, these five must not be spared. Your Majesty, please pass judgment.

The Immortals kneel together.

The Immortals: Your Majesty, please pass judgment.

Queen Mother: Your Majesty, even now, do you still intend to protect them? Do not let them destroy your authority as Jade Emperor.

Jade Emperor: Guards! Cast these five down to the mortal realm. Let them experience mortal life, death, illness, and suffering. They are forbidden from becoming immortals for the rest of their lives, and may return to the immortal realm only after they die. Take them to be reincarnated in the mortal realm now. I want them to start over as ordinary mortals.

The Heavenly Soldiers and Generals escort the five women away, hands clasped in salute.

Heavenly Soldiers and Generals: Yes, Your Majesty.

They bring the five to the Gate of Reincarnation, where the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals prepare to push them into the mortal path.

Jing Xue breaks free of their grasp.

Jing Xue: I don’t want to be mortal! I want to be an immortal! I want to become an immortal! Jade Emperor, please give me one more chance. Please give me one more chance! I beg you, Your Majesty!

The Heavenly Soldiers and Generals seize her again. She slips and falls into the demonic path.

Yu Tong and the others reach out to grab her.

Everyone: Jing Xue!

They fail to catch her, and are helplessly pushed into the mortal path.

After being pushed down, Yu Tong begins to remember.
