The Deep Palace

Watching him bow his head in aggrieved submission made my heart grow colder. I let out a scornful laugh. I looked at her and spoke softly, enunciating every word: “Your enemy is the Empress Dowager.” Will-o'-the-wisps drifted toward us from afar, and a cold smile touched my lips. The imperial palace was as deep as the sea; everyone had become a ghost. The snow blinding me on every side, his figure had already vanished. Cupping my hands around my mouth, I shouted with all my strength, “I will come back for you.” He was wrong. I didn't fall in love with him because he was the first person I met. Our dark hair entwined and spread across the bed. I lay there quietly, gazing at him, the words that had been lodged in my heart for years finally coming out: “You're the only one I love.”
