February's Liyan

Many years ago, when I first met him, he was wearing a white sweater over a blue knit top. He sat alone by the window in a coffee shop, drinking coffee. His eyes were full of loneliness and indifference. I said, "That big brother is so handsome." Mom pulled me away and said, "People like him are kept by others. Stay away from him. They're all filthy to the core." Many years later, he lay quietly in my arms, gazing blankly out the window. I smiled and said, "You look especially beautiful tonight."
